The SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test) is a standardized digital exam for US college admissions, measuring high schoolers' readiness in Reading & Writing and Math, with scores from 400-1600, offering colleges a common comparison point alongside GPA/essays. It's administered by the College Board, now fully digital, computer-based (using Bluebook app on your device), shorter (around 2 hrs 14 mins), and adaptive, with performance in the first module adjusting the second.

Key Aspects:

  • Purpose: College entrance exam to assess college readiness.

  • Format: Digital, on your own device (laptop/tablet), with a built-in Desmos calculator for Math.

  • Sections:

    • Reading & Writing: Short passages, vocabulary, grammar, transitions.

    • Math: Algebra, advanced math, data analysis, geometry, trigonometry.

  • Structure: Two modules per section; difficulty adapts based on the first module's results.

  • Scoring: Total 400-1600 (200-800 per section).

  • Administration: College Board via approved test centers like the HKEAA in Hong Kong

Why It Matters:

  • A significant factor in college admissions, but its weight varies by school.

  • Provides an objective data point to compare diverse applicants.
